Pearly Whites

Last week we focused on black, and dramatic diamond jewelery - so for the sake of opposites, this week we'll showcase a soft and white wedding classic - pearls!

Pearls can be natural or cultivated. The difference is whether the 'irritant' that the mollusk forms the pearl around occurs spontaneously by nature, or is introduced by human intervention. The majority of today's pearls used in jewelery are cultivated - quality natural pearls are very rare, and come with a matching price tag!

The tradition of wearing pearls on the wedding day has continued for centuries, and the pearl's history can be traced back to ancient Greece, where they were offered as tribute to Aphrodite, the goddess of love.

You can continue the tradition on your own wedding day (or every day - hey, we don't care! Pearls are great with jeans and a blouse) with some lovely non-traditional jewelry from the Etsymetal Team!

Back In Black!

Yup - we're back! What a better way to return to our regular blogging schedule than with black themed rings from some of our members! Darkly gorgeous, and perfect for couples looking for something non-traditional.

Did you know that black diamonds are actually 'younger' than clear diamonds? They're only 3.5 million years old, compared to clear diamonds that formed 4.25 million years ago!

From L-R:

Looking for some dark sparkle with a personal twist? Many Etsymetal artists would be happy to make something custom just for you!

All my life's a circle

This past spring I had the pleasure of making an order of gold bands for friends, and photos are just in from the photographer, so I am sharing these lovely images courtesy of Clean Plate Pictures...

Below, in advance of the main event, sample bands in sterling silver made the order sure to be fool proof, and as planned the finals were a perfect fit...
   just like this happy couple.

The slight overage on the my 18kt gold order for the set combined a bit of gold from each band to make a sweet keepsake charm for the bride...

All's well that ends well!  Another happy customer at ArtigianoJewelBox!

Below, some additional Etsy Metal artists offering hammered or chiseled styles in gold bands...

Shooting stars

Did you see the Perseid meteor shower last weekend?  If not, no fear...  EtsyMetal brings you your own personal star show, appearing upon your command and visible both day and night.  Many EtsyMetal members are expert at making your vision of the universe into a reality, and our team network often enables us to suggest just the right reference when any request is not a perfect match.

These shining examples (above) are by Jen Lawler Designs, where Jen employs top notch stone setting skills and a modern design esthetic to create a bold statement. Whether reaching for the moon in white gold and diamonds or applying the same expert craftsmanship in sterling with topaz, Jen’s signature style cannot be missed, as many happy couples already know.

More star shine in a bold, modern design from Konstanze of Nodeform Weddings. Konstanze’s wedding shop has really grown this year, with a galaxy of beautiful choices to inspire you.  The stunning cushion cut diamond and palladium bridal set above is just one example of her outstanding style.  The team has been very proud to have Etsy tap into Konstanze’s expertise in the Guidance and Planning section of the Etsy Wedding resources!  See the column, Straight from the Jeweler's Mouth, May, 2012.

A tale of dreams & visions, forged in steel

Once upon a time in a kingdom far, far away, a fortunate young couple laid plans for a lifetime of love and happiness.  The groom-to-be puzzled and puzzled over the appropriate gift for his betrothed, but she insisted that no gift could match the enormity of their love, and so their promise alone would be enough.  “I will fly like Icarus into the night sky and capture the moon so that it can be set in a beautiful ring and it will shine like our love.”  “No”, she replied, “The moon is wild and free and must remain so, and it will light our nights through all of our years.”  “Well then”, he said, “I will negotiate with a prince of the East for a hoard of rubies to make into magnificent jewels, and you will be warmed by their glow through all of our winters.”  Again she replied, “We must not seek to gain the jewels of other kingdoms, the only jewel we need is the love we already have.”  The wedding grew close and still, every gift he suggested was deemed unnecessary.  Soon the wedding day was imminent and guests began to arrive from many lands to begin the celebration.  On the wedding morn, the vexed groom woke with the breaking day, still determined to solve this riddle.  The sun’s rays reached across the room, and in the first light of dawn he saw below his very own window the most magnificent beast ever beheld by human eyes.  Instantly, he knew this was his perfect gift, but how to capture the wild thing without raising the protests of his sensitive mate? Carefully he opened the court yard door, and with armloads of leaves, twigs, shoots, & vines (along with a few apples for good measure), the animal was quickly bewitched by his kindness and they made fast friends.  Slowly he led his exotic companion to the village forge, enticing him with treats all the way.  Here he begged the local artisan to make a portrait of this never-before creature to be hung on the castle wall as a memory forever of the dawning of this day.  The artisan cautiously agreed and set to work immediately, with a big stack of apples on hand for the unusual model.  The day proceeded, perfect in every way.  The sun made it’s journey across the sky as the guests were bathed in it’s enchanted light and continued the celebration deep into the night.  Exhausted, the guests began to depart, and the couple slowly made their way home.  Upon arriving, the groom threw open the castle door, and glowing in the candlelight over the stone mantle was the artisan’s portrayal of a creature unlike anything the bride had ever beheld. Catching a glint of something in the corner of his eye, he ushered his beloved out onto the balcony.  Below them, in the moonlight at the back of the yard where the wood meets the grassy lawn, stood the enormous stag a with rack of antlers alive in themselves, growing and reaching for the moon before their very eyes.  The creature looked up and shook his mighty head as if to display it’s magnificence.  He took a slow turn across the grassy clearing, and then, in an instant, turned tail and vanished deep into the dark wood, never to be seen again by the eyes of humankind. Ever since that day, the benevolent glance of the buck’s portrait reminds them of that most special guest, on their most special day...  and some visitors claim to have seen a gleam in his steely eye as the moon rises on a starlit night.

This tale is a work of fiction by yours truly, inspired by the work of a very talented artist.  The artist, however, is quite real.  Shae Freeman of CitizenObjects is making magic out of the everyday, and the work she has shared with us is evidence of a narrative all her own.  From a small token to this magnificent creature, we are enthralled.  So when the extraordinary is required, may we suggest you visit Shae.

Welcome! We've been moving the furniture around here at EtsyMetalWedding and would like to invite you in for a peek.  Here you'll find some old friends, as well as some new and exciting emerging artists who have joined our group.  To start off, a nod to a few of the team who have made this all possible.

Special thanks go out to Jane Font, above, for her inspirational organic work and her willingness to help us all get organized!  Jane's been a great asset to EtsyMetal for a while now, and we are so pleased to have her.

An EtsyMetal Wedding

EtsyMetal is celebrating...
our team member Tess, of Nova of Sweden,
has just tied the knot, and has been sharing with us the
handmade details of her joyful day.

Not only a talented metal smith, Tess creates embellished details of
every description(as seen above), and orchestrated a day some
could never imagine. The special bouquet, one of a kind, was created
from enamel and vintage finds. See some of her bridal creations in
her additional shop, Nova of Love.

Bridesmaid’s gifts... made with love for special friends.

And then what took our breath away, a Swedish tradition, this beautiful
heirloom crown just stunned our team. I had to ask if Tess would take
on such an order for an interested bride... and it seems that in the
right circumstance, Tess might just consider sharing this tradition.
It would be a very special order indeed!

All of us at EtsyMetal would like to extend our very best wishes
and hopes to Tess & David for a lifetime of love, happiness, inspiration,
and good will. Thank you so much for sharing these lovely
photos as well as your talents and vision with us!
